Sep 06 2008 - Red Bull Soap Box 2008

Philadelphia, PA (9.6.08) The Red Bull Mobil 1 Chevy Cobalt street car was present for the Red Bull Soap Box Race on Saturday September 6.  On Friday night, the Cobalt marched in a parade along the streets of Philadelphia promoting Saturday’s event.  The parade paid off as the hard rain and cool weather did not stop over 50,000 people from gathering along the road course Saturday morning.  There were bumper to bumper people checking out the thirty-six soap box entries before the races started at 12 noon.

Keeping with tradition, there were many interesting attempts at engineering and hysterical themes to each and every soap box.  Gary Gardella, along with the other judges, critiqued each team’s creativity and showmanship as part of the scoring.  This was a hard job as each of the team’s were more creative and over the top than the next

The Red Bull Cobalt raced down and up the narrow race route while spectators cheered in anticipation for race kickoff.  The car gained the attention of youth who were impressed by the style of the vehicle.  The team took advantage of the many opportunities to educate people on our sponsors products and sport compact drag racing.  Further, the event commentators interviewed Gardella throughout the event, which allowed for spectators to learn more about the team.
