Aug 01 2008 - GR @ ADRL MIR

Budds Creek, MD (7.26.2008) ADRL goes big at Maryland International Raceway! The event was action packed from the moment racing started on Friday afternoon. There were over 150 total racecars for the event and the stands were packed with easily about 30,000 spectators. During the qualifying session, there was a very bad crash, making the staff of MIR work their hardest as they had to repave a large portion of the racing surface before racing could start again. This unexpected incident allowed the series to only get in one round before calling it quits for the night. “We have now been to two ADRL events,” said Gardella, “and hands down this is the best racing that Gardella Racing has been a part of.” “There are so many racers, tractor trailers are lined up for what seems like forever, and the crowd is amazing,” continued Gardella. “I am having so much fun; I can’t wait until the next event in Ohio!” Saturday the racing started early so that the 2 qualifying rounds could be made up in addition to eliminations. The FWD Red Bull Cobalt has a big disadvantage in the XT10.5 class. The team has been giving it their all at these events, trying to qualify against RWD V8’s is difficult to accomplish. After the first round of qualifying the team made the field in the number 12 position. After the second round of qualifying the team got bumped to the 17 spot, placing them on the fence of the 16 car field. Unfortunately, during the third round, there was an issue with the boost controller and the Cobalt did not make the field. “The crew worked their hardest preparing for and running in this event,” said Gardella. “We know that if we did not run into the issue with the controller, we would have made the field. The team is not disappointed, because it is an accomplishment to be out here running well. This is very different from a sport compact event. Surprisingly, there are many young people and even when we are not racing the spectators are very interested in the Red Bull Cobalt.” Gardella Racing will be right back in the swing of things this week; not letting any time waste away. The focus of the next two weeks will be to figure out these small problems and correct them. The team has already made a trip to Atco Speedway and made some shakedown passes in preparation for the next ADRL event. Gardella Racing would like to invite all of their supporters out to this event which is just outside Norwalk, Ohio. Please contact the team if you are interested to reserve your event tickets.
